Federer.  This year’s contest was conducted from October 27 through November 21, 2011 for all 3rd, 4th and 5th grade Clark County students.  The contest was an art project to tell a story about the dog owner and his/her pet.  “We received 125 entries, and the judging was extremely difficult due to the quality of the students’ projects,” Federer said.

The following are this year’s winners:

1st Place Winner is Gabrielle Limes and her dog, Luther.  Gabrielle is a 4th grade student at Northwestern Elementary.  Gabrielle will receive the “#1” heart-shaped 2012 Clark County dog tag, along with prizes for her dog.

2nd Place Winner is a 5th grade student at Snowhill School, Olivia Jenkins and her dog Gracie.  Olivia will receive the “#2” heart-shaped 2012 Clark County dog tag.

3rd Place Winner is Emma Ervin and her dog Bandit.  Emma, a 3rd grade student at Rolling Hills Elementary, will receive the “#3” heart-shaped 2012 Clark County tag.

Entries may also be hand-delivered to the Auditor’s Office at 31 N. Limestone Street, Springfield. Entries must be received by 4 p.m. November 21, 2011.  The dog and student must live in Clark County and only one entry per student will be accepted.

The “Top Dog” selected will receive the “#1” heart-shaped dog tag along with prizes for their dog.  The 2nd and 3rd place dogs selected will be awarded the “#2 and #3” heart-shaped dog tags. 

“I am proud to continue this tradition for the youth of Clark County who take pride in their pets and the responsibilities associated with pet ownership,” Federer said.  “Our judges look forward to reviewing all contestants’ pictures.  This should be a fun and exciting time for all involved.”

Second place winner is Maggie Bruce, at Catholic Central Elementary School in Springfield, and third place winner is Morgan Tackett, a student at Possum Elementary School in Springfield Township. Maggie’s dog Oxford will wear top dog tag number two, while Morgan’s dog Buckeye will wear number three.

The annual top dog contest, available to all third, fourth and fifth grade students in Clark County, is held each year to stress the importance of dog licensing. “Our office will issue approximately 25,000 tags for 2011,” according to Clark County Auditor George Sodders.

Raven, a stray pup, was given to Samantha by her grandmother, “so she could be mine,” Samantha wrote in her essay. Raven will wear the number one dog tag issued in Clark County.

Second place winner is Shyla Cordle, a fourth grade student at Lincoln Park Elementary School in Springfield, and third place winner is Zach Davis, a fourth grade student at Possum School in Springfield Township. Shyla’s dog Molly will wear top dog tag number two, while Angel will wear number three.

Promoting the Importance of Dog Licensing Animal Safety.

This contest is open to every 3rd, 4th and 5th Grade Student in Clark County. Do you think your dog is the TOP DOG   living in Clark County?  If so, you could win a special #1 Top Dog license tag for your dog!

Contest Rules: 

The contest is open to all Clark County students currently in the 3rd, 4th and 5th grade.  You must write, in 100 words or less, why you think your dog is the Top Dog in Clark County. You will be judged on your essay.  The dog and the student must live in Clark County.  Only one entry per student.  Please PRINT or TYPE clearly. Each entry must have: Student’s name, Full Address, Telephone  Number, School, Teacher’s Name, Grade and Name(s) of Parent or Guardian. Entries must be the sole work of the contestant. Entries must be received in the Clark County Auditor’s Office by 4 P.M. November 20, 2009.  Entries may be mailed to the Auditor’s Office, P.O. Box 1325, Springfield OH 45501, or hand delivered to the Auditor’s Office at 31 N. Limestone Street, Springfield, Ohio.  The Top Dog will receive the #1 Dog Tag for 2010 and the 2nd and 3rd place dogs will awarded free special heart shaped dog tag valued at $30.00.
